PENNY LANE AFFORDABLE HOUSING

A local government initiative, this development comprised 48 affordable housing units over three storeys and a 3 storey public carpark on the same site. The housing project was designed to achieve a Greenstar rating of 4 stars via specification of environmentally certified products and appliances, solar-powered water heating, passive solar design and ventilation, waterwise landscaping, facilities for cyclists and small car parking spaces. Revenue from the carpark was intended to offset the cost of building the housing project which was offered to inner city workers for subsidised rental rates.
